Program Overview

At Lollipop Lane in Burleigh Heads, our approved Kindergarten program gives children the time, relationships and challenge they need in the year before school. Led by a qualified Early Childhood Teacher, the program is play-based, responsive to children’s ideas and connected to the skills children use in everyday life.

Learning Focus

Early Literacy & Numeracy

Developing communication, reading, writing and mathematical thinking through play.

Inquiry & Critical Thinking

Investigating ideas, testing theories and solving everyday problems.

Independence & Leadership

Taking responsibility, making decisions and contributing to the group.

School Readiness

Building persistence, self-regulation and confidence for the move to Prep.

Meet our lead Teacher

Tanya is our Kindergarten Teacher and holds a Bachelor of Teaching (Primary & Early Years). As both a qualified teacher and a mum, she knows how important the transition to school is for children and their families. Having had her own children attend Lollipop Lane before moving on to school, she values the lasting relationships and sense of community that make the centre so special. Tanya creates engaging learning experiences that balance play, exploration and intentional teaching, helping every child leave Kindergarten feeling confident, capable and excited for their next adventure.

What children need at this stage

Four and five-year-olds need meaningful choices, opportunities to lead and patient help with complex feelings and friendships. They thrive when educators take their ideas seriously and extend play without taking it over.

Settling and relationship

Educators learn what helps each child connect, whether that is a special job, a friend, a favourite area or a quiet welcome. Families and educators share information so support remains consistent.

Experiences you may see

• Inquiry learning shaped by children’s questions
• Dramatic play, storytelling and puppet-making
• Drawing, writing, name recognition and book-making
• Counting, pattern, measurement and construction
• Cooking, gardening and simple science
• Little Sports Heroes and whole-centre enrichment experiences

Routines and family communication:

Children take increasing responsibility during meals, care routines and pack-away times. Educators document children’s ideas and learning, invite family input and provide regular updates through Storypark and conversations.
